Lies

September 2019 to a sister
I learned to tell lies
early on.
Confrontation and conflict
were to complicated.
Do not show your
joy and happiness.
Please pretend to be sleeping.
Don’t take your space
you frustrate others
and make them shy away.
Hide away your curiosities
and give me your expression
in small pieces that suit me.
Did you get cut off and cut down
just like me?
I feel like if I show my love
I will be pushed away.
There was nothing to share:
if you take the dark,
I can pick the light.
We grew into being
two sides of a coin
flipped around at times.
That what hurt was
our longing to be whole.
